3. The Blue Hole | The "Blue Hole" is located in the center of Lighthouse Reef Atoll, which is about fifty miles due east of Belize City. Originally a cave, the roof fell in some 10,000 years ago as the land receded into the sea. Visible from outer space, the Blue Hole is nearly a perfectly circular hole 1,000 feet in diameter and 412 feet deep. This has become the most famous dive site in all of Belize.

4. Belize Zoo | The Belize Zoo is located at Mile 31 on the Western Highway, some 40 minutes drive from Belize City. Only indigenous species are housed at the Zoo, all of which have been either rescued or donated from owners who could not take care of the animals properly. The "guests" are housed in large compounds containing what would be their natural habitat. Birds, cats, crocodiles, monkeysthe list seems endless. A great opportunity to view and photograph those beasts of the rainforest not easily seen in the wild. A night visit is also offered, which creates the terrific atmosphere of the nocturnal bush.

The building that currently houses the U.S. Embassy was originally erected in 1866 in New England, and was later dismantled and sent as ballast in freighters to Belize City where it was reassembled as a private home. This handsome building has survived numerous hurricanes, fires and other vicissitudes of local life.

8. Old Belize, Cultural and Historical Center | Old Belize offers an unforgettable experience that will surely provide an excellent orientation and appreciation for the country and people of Belize. 10. Cahal Pech Village Resort | The 16,400 acres of waterways, logwood swamps, and lagoon provide habitat for a diverse array of hundreds of resident and migratory birds-all year long. Explore the area by paddle power in a rented canoe or kayak, motor through on a guided tour, or hike the system of boardwalks through lowland savannah and logwood forests, with observation towers providing wide views across the lagoons. The reserve was established by the Belize Audubon Society to protect its most famous habitant, the jabiru stork. It's the largest flying bird in the Western Hemisphere, with wingspans of up to eight feet.
